The exclusive new uniform for T20 was sported by India’s Men in Blue – Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane — who attended the Nike launch in Mumbai.
Invoking a deep sense of national pride, the design and aesthetics of the new T20 kit draw inspiration from India’s rich heritage and cricket culture combined with uncompromised performance innovation.
Key design features include a contemporary new collar, a sleek fit, the colors of the national flag near the athlete’s heart symbolizing national pride, and three stars above the BCCI crest that signify three World Cup victories.
Aptly called the modern uniform of cricket for T20, the apparel comprises the base layer – the Nike Hypercool Pro Combat top and shorts along with the outer layer, the national team jersey, and pants.
The matching blue Nike Hypercool Pro Combat base layer includes a compression top and compression shorts that provide added protection, a responsive locked-in feel, and comfort for the more aggressive and technical requirements of T20.
Nike’s new T20 jersey and pants are stronger, drier, cooler and 45 percent lighter than previous versions. They are uniquely crafted for freedom of movement, providing athletes the stretch and flexibility needed during competition.
In addition to offering the highest level of performance innovation, the kit also leads with sustainable innovation. Continuing efforts on sustainable products that have the least impact on the environment, the kit is made of 100 percent recycled polyester.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch, N Srinivasan, President, BCCI, said, “In India, cricket has always been more than just a sport; it’s part of our culture that unites the entire nation. The T20 format of the game has become extremely popular amongst young fans across the world.
“For athletes, this format is very demanding, and we are very happy that Nike has designed the new T20 kit keeping in mind the needs of the game. We wish our team greater success in the coming seasons.”
In his address, Tarun Puri, Managing Director and General Manager, Nike India Pvt. Ltd., said, “As the official apparel sponsor of the Indian Cricket Team, Nike has always strived to provide our Men in Blue apparel that leads in innovation, design and comfort.
“Nike’s new T20 kit combines superior lightweight performance that has minimum impact on the environment.
“We believe that the innovations in the new kit will provide a competitive advantage to the Team India while complimenting their youthful and modern look. We wish the team good luck for the forthcoming tournaments.”
Team India will sport the exclusive new T20 kit in the upcoming seasons starting with the home series against New Zealand.
